Below you can find some guidelines for recycling within our community at home and at work.

About Us
SINGLE-STREAM RECYCLING ITEMS

DO INCLUDE THESE ITEMS IN YOUR RECYCLING

Glass bottles & jars: Rinse, remove lids, labels okay, no plate glass, drinking glasses, light bulbs or ceramics.

Paperboard: Non-corrugated boxes like cereal boxes, egg cartons, greeting cards, manila folders, mailing tubes, wrapping/tissue paper, etc.

Paper: Office paper, junk mail, envelopes, letters,
postcards, paper bags, reports, brochures, magazines, catalogs, newspapers with inserts and phone books.

Cardboard: Flatten and cut/fold down to under 2 feet, clean pizza boxes only.

Acceptable Plastics: any #1-7 container (except those listed under unacceptable plastics), Narrow-necked bottles (#1-2, remove caps), Wide-mouth containers (butter and cottage cheese tubs) Yogurt containers, Clear clamshells (deli/bakery sandwich or cookie/strawberry containers), Personal care/prescription bottles, Pails (under 5 gallon size ONLY), Flower and garden pots Nalgene bottles

DON'T INCLUDE THESE ITEMS IN YOUR RECYCLING

Frozen entrée microwave trays. . . . Put in trash
• Food trays or party platters, even if stamped with #1-7. . . . . . . Reuse or put in trash
• Shrink wrap or plastic wrap. . . Put in trash
• Plastic bags. . . Reuse or recycle at grocery stores
• Automotive chemical containers,
including motor oil and
antifreeze bottles. . . Triple rinse and put in trash
• Pesticide containers. . Triple rinse and put in trash
• Styrofoam containers. . . Put in trash
• Compostable bottles or cups
marked #7 “compostable” . . . Put in trash or “hot” compost pile

The city will accept these items for free — make sure they are clean and free of branches, trash and organic matter.

OTHER ITEMS

Commonly used items such as batteries, compact florescent light bulbs (CFLs) and motor oil should not be thrown in the trash. When put in the landfill, they contaminate our drinking water, wildlife and air quality, not to mention it is illegal.

Listed are safe and free disposal options:

CFLs: Ace Hardware (Berthoud, Clay’s, Downtown Fort Collins, Greeley, Orchards and Windsor), Drake Hardware, Larimer County Landfill Hazardous Waste Collections Facility and The Light Center

Alkaline Batteries: Batteries Plus (must cover positive terminal with tap) and Larimer County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility

Rechargeable Batteries: Ace Hardware ( Berthoud, Downtown Fort Collins and Orchards), Batteries Plus, Best Buy and Interstate All Battery Center

Motor Oil: Checker Auto Parts, City of Loveland Drop-off, Houska Automotive, Larimer County Household Hazardous Waste Collection and Rams Conoco

E-Waste (i.e. Circuit Board Equipment): Such as TV’s and monitors, computers, printers, scanners and fax machines, stereo equipment, VCR’s , DVD players, video cameras, telephones, cell/wireless phones, fax and copy machines, video game consoles, ect. Please call the office for a Special Pick-up.

USED EYEGLASSES

Drop off old prescription glasses at your local Lens Crafters, Pearle Vision, Sears, Target, your local Lions Club.

STYROFOAM

There are no recycling options for Styrofoam used as food packaging or molded. However, styrofoam peanuts can be recycled at the following....
