For your convenience, we have included the following information relating to trash and recycling service for your home. Please review the following information to ensure your service is not delayed or interrupted at any time. We look forward to servicing you!
The A-B-C's OF TRASH & RECYCLING
Please follow the guidelines below to ensure quality service and avoid serivce interruption.
- Have your TRASH and RECYCLING at curbside by 7a..m. on your pIckup day.
- Please try to contact us at least 24 hours in advance if you are going to have extras or large bulky items for pickup.
- Contact us within 24 hours if you believe your service was skipped
- We recommend bagging all trash to prevent/reduce litter , especially during the windy season
- Please notify us large items or larger amounts of EXTRA waste before your pickup day. We recommend that all Extra waste be set out in a GSI Teal Bag. These can be purchased from our office. Learn more HERE. If it is a bulk item (i.e. furniture), contact our office to arrange pickup.
- Per Fort Collins Ordinance, any trash outside of, on top of the cart (including if lid is cracked open) must be billed as extra trash. The current rate is $3.50/bag/can standard bundle OR $3.25/GSI TEAL BAG (bundled at 20/pkg). (Click here for more on Extra trash regulations)
NEVER put the following items in your trash:
- Motor oil
- Hazardous waste (click here)
- Liquid paint
- Needles or syringes
- Cooking oil (can be disposed of if solidified, i.e. add kitty litter to solidify)
- Tires - these have been banned from Colorado landfills since 2/2007
- Loose or hot ashes
Cart Placement Instructions
- Place carts at least two feet apart
- Place two feet from parked cars, recycling bins, fences, mailboxes and other obstructions
- Place carts with arrow facing the street and the handle facing your house (lids open toward street)
- Place cart wheels as close to the curb as possible
- Lid of cart must be closed (flat) or extra charges will be applied
- Unhook any temporary bungee cords or tie-downs you may have used to secure the lid
- Do not place dirt, sod, brick, concrete or rock in the cart
- Do not place anything on top of cart
Do NOT put the following items in your cart:
- Dirt, sod, brick, concrete or rock
- Debris from construction, remodeling or demolition
- Hot ashes, coals or other flammable materials such as solvents, oil, gas or paint
- Hazardous waste or materials
- Liquid waste
- Dead animals (please contact your local Humane Society for assistance)
Blue Lid Single-Stream Curbside Recycling
Unlimited curbside recycling is included with your regular household trash collection. GSI will provide each household with an 18-gallon tub ($16.00 each purchase), or a 65-gallon or 95-gallon cart for recycling. Please note that your recycle cart has a bright, royal blue lid.
Recycle service is provided on an Every-Other-Week basis. You can identify your service week by checking the top of your statement, reviewing the collection map, and referring to our Recycle Collection Calendar.
Please review the list of materials that are accepted through our Curbside Single-Stream Recycling program listed below. Your attention to these details are critical to the success of our program. You will almost certainly find things that you can add to your recycling cart and reduce your waste ever more!
