The intent of this notice is to inform all Fort Collins residents of issues that will drastically affect your freedom of choice to select a waste removal company that cares for your service needs.

Due to the recent decision by the City of Fort Collins to select a national company, Waste Management, as the waste hauler for the Pilot Trash District area local companies would like to share the following information:

• The Pilot Trash District Area (PTDA) is a CORE AREA OF BUSINESS for two local companies. They have provided trash hauling services to customers in this area and appreciate their continued loyalty throughout the years.
  

Why is a change necessary?

• 86% of all customers in the PTDA are using either Gallegos Sanitation (61%) or Ram Waste (25%) as their chosen service provider. When given the freedom of choice the majority of citizens clearly did not choose Waste Management.
  

Are four City Council members respecting the overwhelming choice of those households?

• Together the local companies employ 14 people that serve 86% of the households in the PTDA.
  

How will this affect those employees and their families?

• The City of Fort Collins has greatly promoted the campaign, “BUY LOCAL”. Yet two local companies will not have the chance to continue to provide their local service to the PTDA.
  

How does this decision support the “BUY LOCAL” campaign?

• It’s CHEAPEST PRICE vs. BEST VALUE.
  

Do the citizens of Fort Collins need a “pilot program” that takes away their freedom of choice?

• Local companies have already complied with the recent ordinance changes and purchased new recycling carts for the citizens. This “investment” becomes a red-line item to the haulers’ budget.
  

Who will reimburse these expenses?

• The Fort Collins City Council is making the decision for 6,500 households. Three of the seven Council members OPPOSE the Pilot Trash District idea.
